What to Expect

Take a break from Barcelona´s hustle and bustle on a stroll through the picturesque Poble Espanyol and walk by Galician townhouses, Catalan monasteries and through winding Andalusian alleyways.

Built for the International Exhibition in 1929, the Spanish village reproduces the different architectural styles of fifteen regions of Spain and recreates an Iberian village with the typical central square and city hall, narrow streets and charming archways. Covering an area of 49,000 m² and situated at the foot of Montjuïc, the village became so popular during the International Exhibition, that it was conserved even after the event closed its doors and attracts today more than 1 million visitors every year.

‘El Poble Espanyol’ is a living museum with more than 20 workshops, where jewellery, musical instruments and toys are manufactured following traditional methods, and a popular venue for concerts, gastronomical festivals and craft workshops. The on-site theatre gives performances for children every Sunday and even modern art has found its place here in the Fran Daurel museum and sculpture garden. And what would a trip through Spain be without its culinary specialties? So try some homemade cheeses and bread, traditionally produced wine and olive oil or enjoy Spanish cooking in one of the many restaurants and cafés.
