What to Expect

Retrace Picasso's first steps as an artist at Barcelona’s Picasso Museum and discover the early works of one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

Opened in 1963, the museum was worldwide the first dedicated to the artist’s work and illustrates Picasso’s close relationship to the city of Barcelona. Today among the most visited art museums of the world, it is housed in five medieval town houses in Barcelona's La Ribera with a permanent collection that comprises more than 4,000 works, including paintings and drawings, engravings, and ceramics.

The museum’s permanent collection centres around Picasso’s early years between 1890 and 1917, representing the most comprehensive record of the artist's beginnings. The exhibition displays works from his training period, the Blue period and works in Barcelona from 1917, including two of his first major works, ‘The First Communion’ and ‘Science and Charity’.

How does it work?

The Picasso Museum has limited capacity and assigns timeslots to enter the museum. In order to avoid the queues at the local ticket counter, admission should be reserved in advance.

When you book your entrance ticket, please select the date and a time slot for your visit. We will reserve your ticket within the chosen timeframe, depending on availability, and send you your tickets with the exact time of entrance within 24 hours.

The timeslot only fixes the time you enter the building. Once inside, you can stay as long as you want.
